1911 Pistol Parts and Accessories
LG Outdoors Carries one of the largest inventories of 1911 Pistol Parts and Accessories. The Colt Government Model of 1911 is one of the longest serving military handguns of all time. This pistol came about due to need of the Army in the Philippian campaign where the newly adopted .38 Colt revolvers failed miserably as a man stopper. The Army had to pull their old 1873 Colt revolvers back in to service and John Browning was commissioned to design new semi auto hand gun that was as effective in stopping power as the Colt 45 was. The 1911 served the United States military extremally well in wars and campaigns around the world. It was extremely reliable, powerful and simple. Over 100 years old, it still has a very strong following and a long way to go. The 1911 has been chambered in many caliber, 22 LR, 9mm Luger, .38 Super, .45 ACP, with the most powerful caliber being the 10 MM. When I carried a Colt 1911 in the Army in the early 70’s, it did the job well and one shot was normally adequate. Years later I talk to many service men that were issues the 9mm Beretta’s and fought in Desert Strom where the SOP for using a handgun was now a double tap which is strange because the Army adopted the 9mm so they could carry more rounds of ammo, but if it takes 2 shot from a 9mm to do what one shot from a .45 did, what did they gain?
