7mm Remington Ultra Magnum
Introduced in 2000, the 7mm Remington Ultra Magnum (RUM) is the fastest 7mm commercial cartridge. Based on the fat, unbelted 404 Jeffery case, it is a full-length magnum (2.850-inch) case requiring a 375 H&H-length action. The 7mm RUM averages about 200 fps faster than the 7mm Remington Magnum with all bullet weights; and about 100 fps faster than the 7mm Shooting Times Westerner. It is thus extremely flat-shooting, but with less considerably less recoil than a .30-caliber with similar velocity. Perhaps surprisingly, the 7mm RUM has not become popular and is currently offered primarily by Remington in both rifles and ammunition. — Craig Boddington
