375 Flanged
The 375 Flanged is the rimmed counterpart of the 375 H&H, introduced along with the 375 H&H in 1912. The rimmed case is intended for use in double rifles and was chambered in some single-shots because these actions generally function best when the extractor/ejector has a cartridge rim to bear against. Because most break-open actions are not as strong as other types the 375 Flanged is generally loaded about 100 feet per second slower than the 375 H&H. This is a difference that most game animals are unlikely to notice, so the 375 Flanged is adequate for all game the 375 H&H is suited for. The 375 Flanged is seen primarily in older rifles, but is currently chambered to some new doubles. No major manufacturer produces ammunition, but it is readily available from numerous smaller suppliers. — Craig Boddington
