30 Thompson Center
The 30 TC (30 Thompson Center) was developed as a joint project between Hornady and Thompson Center; introduced in 2007, it was the frist factory cartridge to bear the Thompson Center name. Based on the 308 Winchester case shortened to 1.920 inches, the 30 TC uses then-new propellant technology to produce velocities very similar to the 30-06...but in a significantly shorter and more compact case. Hornady factory loads offer 150-grain bullets at 3000 feet per second, 165-grain bullets at 2850. The 30 TC is suitable for any hunting that the 308 Winchester or 30-06 are suited for. Only Hornady makes ammunition and so far only Thompson Center has manufactured rifles; the 30 TC's problem, if there is one, is that no rifle actions have been specifically sized for its cartridge length. — Craig Boddington
