9X23mm Winchester
The 9X23mm Winchester is a rimless pistol cartridge introduced by Winchester in 1996. The 9X23mm was designed for International Practical Shooting Confederation (IPSC) competition, using a longer (.900-inch) case than the 9X19 with a standard .355-inch 9mm bullet. With greater case capacity the 9X23 is loaded to higher pressure and velocity than the 9X19, propelling a 125-grain bullet at 1450 fps. The intent was to increase reliability for knocking over steel plates...but keep recoil down by using a lighter bullet at high velocity. The 9X23mm has been successful in IPSC circles but is not common in other handgunning applications. — Craig Boddington
